Press Release: Bishop-Wisecarver Hosts 10th Annual National Manufacturing Day

2021 Virtual Event Includes Wisecarver Innovation Award Student Design Contest & Manufacturing Career Video

Pittsburg, Calif. – October 7, 2021 – Bishop-Wisecarver, an industrial automation company offering proven linear and rotary motion solutions for harsh and extreme environments, is hosting its tenth consecutive National Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) event to highlight the reality of modern manufacturing careers. This year’s virtual event includes a newly created video geared towards students that focuses on the top reasons to consider a career in manufacturing, and the second annual Wisecarver Innovation Award student design contest encouraging students to use hands-on experience to learn more about the manufacturing industry.

“Students start forming their career plans while still in middle and high school and we want to make sure the benefits of working in the manufacturing industry are on their radar,” said Pamela Kan, President of Bishop-Wisecarver. “We’ve hosted National Manufacturing Day activities since the event started ten years ago as a way to showcase this innovative, high tech, diverse industry to the next generation of workers. We are committed to helping students understand how manufacturing careers can help them create the needed products, solutions and visions to make a long-lasting difference in the world.”

Wisecarver Innovation Award Student Design Contest
The 2nd Annual Wisecarver Innovation Award Student Design Contest focuses on the growth of automation in helping drive greater productivity and more opportunities for the future workforce. Students are tasked with designing and creating an automated process for preparing pizza with sauce and toppings.

Participants will provide a 60-second video that includes an overview of their idea and what it does, along with any drawings, prototypes or concept designs that help provide additional explanation. The contest kicked off on October 1 and all submissions must be received by November 1, 2021. The winner receives $250 for themselves and $1000 for their school.

About Manufacturing Day
Manufacturing Day, produced by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and The Manufacturing Institute, is an annual, national event that seeks to inspire the next generation of manufacturers, and this year’s event aligns with the “Creators Wanted” campaign. Manufacturers in the United States need to fill 4.6 million jobs by 2028. More than half of those jobs could be left unfilled because of two issues: a skills gap and misperceptions about modern manufacturing. By 2025, Creators Wanted aims to reduce the skills gap in the United States by 600,000, as well as increase the number of students enrolling in technical and vocational schools or reskilling programs by 25 percent.
