Power-Up! This was the theme of the 2017-18 First Robotics Competition and focused on two alliances of video game characters and their human operators who are trapped in an arcade game. Both alliances are working to defeat the boss in order to escape.
With this basic description, the competition began this past January and thousands of students around the world incorporated STEM learning and processes to create robots who could meet the challenge. Bishop-Wisecarver proudly sponsors several regional teams each year including The Fembots, an all-female team from St. Francis High School in Sacramento, Calif.
Check out this video from sophomore Amy Kiyama, one of the build leads on The Fembots team, as she describes how they built this year’s robot and what it was designed to do. Congrats to all the students who worked so hard to build, program, fundraise and design for this year’s competition!
